One of the wonderful things about having a home in Southwest Florida is the beautiful weather we are able to enjoy year round.
While our friends in the north put on layer upon layer of clothing and top it off with a fluffy parka, we’re more than likely going to be throwing on a scarf purely to make a fashion statement. Circumstances such as this is why courtyard living is becoming an increasingly popular addition to our custom home floor plans.Courtyards, or even just an enhanced outdoor living space, provide homeowners with a more private alternative for entertaining guests in an outdoor setting or just a quiet place to relax and take advantage of the glorious weather. Often fully accessible from the main living area and the master bedroom suite, the courtyards found in Southwest Florida real estate enhance the level of luxury living with walls for privacy, a water feature, lighting, plants, and the invigorating Florida sunshine.
A perfect example of an outdoor oasis created as a central feature of a home is the exquisite courtyard of the Chianti III model in Estuary at Grey Oaks. The Chianti III has over 5,900 square feet of living space surrounding the casual outdoor living area featuring a pool, outdoor dining room, a casual seating space, and lush, green foliage.
Courtyards may also serve as a focal point of the entrance of a home. The luxury custom home built for a private residence (above picture) included a large front courtyard that escalated the home’s grand appearance with a beautiful fountain and stately columns leading towards an elegant entrance with pops of colors in the flowers placed on either side of the entryway.
If a homeowner is looking for a more tranquil setting, a smaller courtyard, like the one found in the Bardolino in Miromar Lakes, with a fountain, a fireplace, a quaint seating area, and flowers and foliage may be a wonderful alternative. Flowers and foliage not only fill the space with enchanting scents carried by the natural airflow; they can also attract birds and butterflies for a true relaxed garden feel.
Whether you are looking to build a home that “lives” around an extravagant courtyard for entertaining or creating a space that evokes feelings of calm and contentment, courtyard living is a sure fire way to enjoy the many benefits of the Florida lifestyle.
