NAPLES, Fla. (March 1, 2016) – The Club at Mediterra was recently recognized by the Green Restaurant Association as a two-star Certified Green Restaurant. Naples’ premier private golf and beach club community, Mediterra is the nation’s first private residential community country club to receive the prestigious designation.

The Beach Club and Mediterra’s catering division also received two-star ratings based on implementation of 49 environmental practices.

Only one other restaurant in Florida – the public Toro Toro in Miami – has received the GRA’s certification.

The association scores restaurants and food service operations in seven environmental categories, including energy and water efficiency; the use of sustainable food, reusables and eco-friendly disposables; waste reduction and recycling; sustainable furnishings and building materials; and chemical and pollution reduction. Restaurants must have a full-scale recycling program, be free of polystyrene foam and fulfill yearly education requirements for staff.

“Mediterra was designed with minimal impact to the natural environment and continues that commitment in every facet of community and club operations,” said Carmen Mauceri, general manager of The Club at Mediterra.

“Achieving this certification is an honor,” he said. “The Green Restaurant Association’s scoring process is very detailed. It reviews everything involved in operating our restaurant and catering facilities, from the use of recycled paper menus, chlorine-free paper towels, locally grown produce, organic and vegetarian options, and the energy and water efficiency of our recently expanded kitchen. We recycle everything commercially possible in Naples.”

The Club at Mediterra, Beach Club and catering operations exceeded the GRA’s minimal requirements by more than 22 percent.

The Green Restaurant Association is a national nonprofit organization helping restaurants become more environmentally sustainable through its certification process.

The Club at Mediterra also is ranked as one of the top private clubs in the world by BoardRoom magazine. The club features two world-class Tom Fazio-designed courses and the private 10,000-square-foot Beach Club on the Gulf of Mexico, offering an elevated swimming pool, casual dining with a full bar, and valet service for beach chairs, umbrellas, and beverage and food menus.

Mediterra, a nine-time Community of the Year winner, offers an array of onsite lifestyle amenities, including themed neighborhood parks; eight miles of walking and jogging trails; and a fitness complex with tennis and bocce courts, a pool and spa services.

The 32,000-square-foot clubhouse features a main dining room, Club Lounge and kitchen, and alfresco dining options with an exposition kitchen and chef’s table.

The club and Tavern on 18 offer relaxed and casual dining prepared by a staff of award-winning culinary experts. The outdoor Tavern features a fire pit and lounge area, and serves gourmet brick-oven pizzas, seasonal salads and open-air grilled entrées.

All of the community’s amenities are membership-owned.

Mediterra offers luxury single-family estate homes and maintenance-free villas built by London Bay Homes, one of only two companies named America’s Best Builder in 2008 by Builder magazine. The company and its affiliates manage all new home sales and marketing for Mediterra.

Available home designs are priced from $1 million to more than $7 million.
